DoCo's Jasamine Dixon Named President- Elect of Georgia Council for the Social Studies

The Georgia Council for the Social Studies (GCSS) has named Dougherty County School System Secondary Social Studies Content Coordinator Jasamine Dixon as its new President-Elect.

Dixon, who has served as an instructional leader and advocate for social studies education in Dougherty County, will serve in the statewide leadership role before becoming President of the organization in the following term.

Founded in 1963, the Georgia Council for the Social Studies promotes excellence in social studies education and supports teachers in preparing students to become informed and engaged citizens.

“I am honored to have been elected President-Elect of the Georgia Council for the Social Studies (GCSS). GCSS is dedicated to promoting the study of the social sciences throughout the state,” Dixon said. “At the heart of this role is advocacy, ensuring that our students have equitable access to the resources, opportunities, and high-quality social studies education they deserve so they can thrive as leaders and citizens in a democratic society.

“As President-Elect and then President of the Georgia Council for the Social Studies, I look forward to showcasing the innovation within our district and highlighting the intentional work happening in our classrooms every day.”

Dixon will officially assume her duties as President-Elect during the GCSS annual conference and will continue to represent the Dougherty County School System in advancing social studies education across Georgia.
