Marines who serve as mentors to students within the Dougherty County School System were honored along with school officials during a ceremony on base Tuesday.
Each year, Marines who serve aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany spend hundreds of volunteer hours mentoring students at Southside Middle School and International Studies Elementary Charter School through the Mentors-in-Action program.
Tuesday, Dr. Zeda George, principal at ISECS, accepted a plaque of appreciation for allowing the Marines the opportunity to come into the schools and be a partner.
Cpl. Alandre L. Brown received the unit's Mentor of the Year award for logging more than 50 volunteer hours at Southside and ISECS.
Major General Craig Crenshaw, the commanding officer of Marine Corps Logistics Command, thanked Dr. George, the Dougherty County School System and the Marines for showing outstanding leadership in their adopted community.
