Phoebe Welcomes Seven Leap Day Babies
Friday, March 4th, 2016
Leap Day 2016 was quite busy for the Labor & Delivery department at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, with the birth of seven babies.
The hospital welcomed its first leap year baby of 2016, Sage Jackson, at 2:01 a.m. Monday morning, weighing in at 7 lbs. 15 oz. According to proud mom, Porchea Jackson, of Albany, her due date was originally February 23.
“After my due date passed, my sister kept saying I was going to have a leap year baby, but I didn’t really believe it,” said Porchea. “It didn’t even hit me until after she [Sage] was born that, in fact, she is a leap day baby.”
When asked what day she will observe as Sage’s birthday, Porchea says they will celebrate on March 1.
The chances of being born on a leap day are 1 in 1,461.
