After considerable public outcry over the past few years over its proposed closure, the downtown Albany Post Office will remain open for at least an additional five years.

Albany and Dougherty County officials announced at a joint news conference Wednesday that the Postal Service has agreed to a new five year lease with property owner Lone Star Equities, Inc. that will keep the post office, located at Broad Avenue and Jefferson Street open until 2019.
