• Phoebe Putney Health System Generates $1.2B for Local and State Economy

  Phoebe Putney Health System generated more than $1.2 billion in revenue for the local and state economy in 2015 according to a recent report by the Georgia Hospital Association, the state’s largest hospital trade association. The report also found that, during the same period, the health system provided more than $56 million in community benefit while supporting over 8,000 full-time jobs throughout Southwest Georgia and across the state.

Even if I never set foot in the gym I belong to here in Albany, I will not cancel the membership because it is more than a gym, it is an investment in my family and my community. We belong to the YMCA and have for many years. The Y is a non-profit organization whose focus is on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Springtime is also the season for renewal, rejuvenation, and resurrection for many of us who golf, as Daylight Saving Time enables us to practice or play a few extra holes before darkness sets in.

• Metro Albany’s Unemployment Rate Declines to 6.1% in February

  The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) announced today that Metro Albany’s unemployment rate in February was 6.1 percent, down four-tenths of a percentage point from 6.5 percent in January. In February 2016, the rate was 6.4 percent.
