Georgia Power Education Coordinator, Wendy Joiner recently energized approximately 125 students from Lake Park Elementary during virtual Science Night. The virtual event included a simple machines demonstration, a discussion on hydroelectricity and a video to show how power is restored.
Mason Smith, a Georgia Power Lineman also participated in the virtual science night. With a toy bucket truck, Mason explained the different components of a real truck. He also explained importance of power safety and what to do if they come see a downed power line.
At the start of the pandemic the Georgia Power education team modified their standards to continue STEM education. Now teachers have the flexibility of scheduling virtual live lessons, student self-paced lessons, and pre-recorded lessons. Learning Power is on Google Play and Apple App Store with a suite of eight games plus AR Nuclear and Smart Power Grid experiences.
