Studio 413 Salon & Spa Investigates What's New in Beauty
Monday, June 6th, 2011
In early June, beauty industry professionals from around the U.S. and 14 other countries will gather in Orlando at Premiere Orlando 2011, an international beauty event, to learn what’s new in products, trends and techniques. Among them will be Monica Grantham and the staff of Studio 413 Salon & Spa in Albany.
“We’re always learning about new products and techniques for our clients through in-salon classes and we go to the Orlando show every year,” said Grantham, owner of Studio 413 Salon & Spa.
Studio 413 Salon & Spa is a full-service family hair and nail salon located at 2734 Ledo Street, #4 in Albany. Its services include haircuts and styling, color, perms, facial waxing, spa manicures and pedicures, gel nails and Twinkle Toes, a glitter pedicure. The salon carries top-quality products such as Joico, Kenra, Redken and Nioxin.
What’s new in beauty
According to Grantham at this year’s Premiere Orlando, Studio 413 Salon & Spa nail technicians will learn more about reflexology and explore the possibility of adding the service to the salon’s offerings. Reflexology involves applying pressure to specific reflex points typically on the feet and hands to relieve stress and tension.
“We’ll also be checking out the latest straightening products, which are free of formaldehyde. We look for the best performing products that are safe for both our clients and stylists,” Grantham said.
The show offers more than 180 classes on hair topics such as extensions and weaves, global texture and hair color, 75 classes on varying nail techniques, 80 classes on skincare and 50 courses on business topics ranging from marketing to staffing. Orlando Premiere is a trade show for members of the professional beauty industry only. It is not open to the general public.
Getting the word out in Albany
Studio 413 Salon & Spa has experienced a steady flow of business even during the recent recession. According to Grantham, the salon strives to deliver consistent, high quality service at a competitive, affordable price in a relaxing, positive environment.
“Clients are really our best advertising. When our clients look good, it makes us look good,” Grantham explained.
Grantham is also pursuing other ways of getting the word out about Studio 413 Salon & Spa. She is working with a local web designer on a website for the salon. She also plans to work with LivingSocial, a social buying company that specializes in localized daily deals across more than 240 markets in more than 12 countries for its 26 million email subscribers. According to Grantham, LivingSocial will begin offering deals in the Albany market this July and the salon will be featured in one or more deals.
Providing an opportunity to grow
In addition to providing quality services to clients, Grantham is focused on creating a positive environment for her employees to grow and develop as professionals. The salon employs six stylists and two nail technicians.
“I’m really blessed to work with a great group of professional women. I want to be sure they can grow in both their professional and personal lives,” she said.
