Transcript:

I’m Dr. Grundfast with Phoebe Gastroenterology and this message is about screening colonoscopy. If you’re age 50 or older or have a family member who has colon cancer, then you are definitely a person who needs to contact our office to get screened. We know that 50 percent of death can be eliminated by getting screened. So it’s very important for you to come in and get your screening colonoscopy. It is extremely important that you follow your doctor’s directions about how to prep for colonoscopy. The better the quality of the preparation, the smaller the lesions that can be detected in your colon, the more effective the procedure is in the long run.

Many people have apprehension about doing the preparation, but it’s very straightforward, it’s easy, it’s effective. You come in the next morning, we give you excellent medications to make you very comfortable for the procedure that takes away all your apprehension. The most common question that I get from people is when are you going to start the procedure, and I say you’re already done. Come and get screened. It’ll be a great way to save your life.

Roughly one out of eleven people will develop colon cancer. This is the reason that it’s so important to get screened with screening colonoscopy because we can catch the disorder at an early stage and have it treated effectively. Colon cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer in the United States. By screening for colon cancer we can reduce the incidence of death by more than 50 percent, that’s half. If you have any symptoms of abdominal pain, bloating, bleeding from the rectum, you need to contact your primary care provider as soon as possible to get scheduled with Phoebe Gastroenterology for your colonoscopy.
