Hello. My name is Daniel Titus and I’m a graphics designer, and one of the services that I offer with my business is web hosting. A lot of people seem to be a little confused as to what web hosting is and, therefore, they often get a product or service that is not right for their business. And so I want to take a minute just to kind of explain what it is and what it is that you might need. Web hosting is a space on someone else’s server. Every website that you go to has information on a—has physical information on a server somewhere. 

When you pull off a website on your computer that’s looking at information on a computer somewhere. And so web hosting is offering that server space. The benefit of using a professional server as opposed to an in-house server is basically stability and bandwidth. If you try to host your own server, and that’s something you can do if you’ve got the IT department, you’re going to need a large amount of bandwidth, a large amount of space, and a lot of redundancies to make sure that that stays up and running. Multiple generators, like I said a lot of bandwidth, just to make sure that your side stays up and running when you need it.

However, when you use a professional server they have all those redundancies and all those securities built in already. Multiple servers, cooled floors, climate control areas, lots and lots of bandwidth, that are there to ensure that your site is up whenever a client goes to take a look at it without costing you the extra expense of providing all those things for yourself.
