Larry Price, President of Albany Winnelson Company, talks about their business on what has made them successful as they celebrate their 30th year in business.

Hi. My name is Larry Price with Albany Winnelson Company. We’re a wholesale plumbing supply company that’s celebrating our 30th year, our anniversary this year. We started in 1982. We’re a wholesale plumbing and retail. We have counter sales as well as a showroom that’s open to the public. We have been partnering with the contractors and the builders and the plumbing company contractors here in this community now to help to make their companies more profitable and, therefore, build a more profitable company for ourselves. It’s been a great time working with local and out of town contractors.
One of the ways that we do this is by out-servicing our competition. Everyone’s got products for sale, but one of the things that makes us so strong is our service. One of the things that we want to recognize is, is that people deal with people that do them right, and when somebody comes in to see us we not only give them good service before the sale, but we also give them good service after the sale. In the supply business one of the things we do that we offer our customers is we offer them free delivery in our trade area, and we cover about a 60 or 70 mile radius of Albany. And we work with each different kind of contractor as well, the smaller industrials.
Now I found to be successful in any kind of business that more than anything else is you’ve got to find a niche. I think one of the problems that most companies get in trouble with is they try to be all things to all people. And in our business and why we’ve been so successful for 30 years is we found a niche that we can work with contractors and do the things that we do best, and that’s give them service on the products we sell. And that’s made our company so successful over this 30-year period.
We enjoy Albany. Albany is a good town. Albany’s got a lot of positive things working for it and we work with all industries as well, the small industries as well.
