Hello.  I’m Robert Powell with Professional Networking.  Today I’m going to talk about the resources for voice and data in Albany, Georgia.  We’re very fortunate to be here in Albany with the connectivity that we have for voice and data.  And this is a big change over the last few years, I’d say within the last five years.  Early on we had all the BellSouth AT&T copper lines.  Within the last few years that’s changed with a lot of different providers.  Also, we’ve had the Water, Gas & Light which has brought in the fiber connectivity here, which is really good for the city and the outlying areas.  We also have Mediacom now who has stepped over into the broadband arena in a big way.  They also are doing some outlying areas too just like the Water, Gas & Light is.

With the voice connectivity and the data connectivity here in Albany, like I say, there are many options, one being the copper option, which is the old form which is the AT&T.  Along with AT&T today, we have Birch Communication, Deltacom, and some other providers that provide both voice and data over the copper network.  From there we move into the fiber arena which is what the Water, Gas & Light provides, and it also has the ability to provide both data and both voice.  The voice is very selective currently because there are only few providers in our area.  Then we move into the cable connectivity which is the Mediacom connectivity, which is also a broadband but at a much more limited speed just like the copper connectivity, it’s at a much lower speed.

From a speed standpoint and an Internet connectivity standpoint and a bandwidth standpoint, the best connectivity is through the fiber which is provided by the Water, Gas & Light.  The other options are, like I said earlier, the copper connectivity and the cable.  All of the pricing on any of these, with the exception of the copper connectivity, is not the same but it varies by location and by the amount of bandwidth.  We’ve found over the years that the copper connectivity is much higher and that’s why people are moving over into the fiber or into the cable connectivity.  The preference is really up to the customer and what their needs are.

In summary, one of our favorite providers would be the Water, Gas & Light and the fiber connectivity because it’s so diverse.  And I’m Robert Powell with Professional Networking, and if you’d like more information, please just give us a call or look us up on our website.
