Jackie Sizemore, Owner of Backwoods Outdoors in Albany talks about the difference it makes having employees that understand what a customer wants when they come into your store.
I'm Jackie Sizemore with Backwoods Outdoors, and I want to talk to you a little bit about my employees. I think that makes a difference. My employees are very passionate about what we do here and we try to make them feel a part of, well they are a part of what we're doing.
I think any business is only as good as its employees. It can be a dream job because you get to talk hunting/fishing all the time, or dealing with all the fun toys for outdoors. They enjoy their self but they're also specific‑oriented as far as being an authority on certain issues like gun sales or shotguns or bullets, archery. I've got a bow tech who is passionate about bows.
It makes a difference to have employees that way because you have to understand what a customer wants when they come in. A customer can smell someone who's not an authority on a certain issue and they can find it quick. You can run a customer out if you don't know what you're talking about. Our employees take real pride in what they do here, and I think it makes a big difference for Backwoods Outdoors.
