Families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital (PPMH) will soon have a special new way to celebrate one of life's most meaningful milestones: bringing their baby home.

Thanks to a partnership between the Junior League of Albany and the Phoebe Foundation, a new interactive mural was recently unveiled in the NICU. The mural will give families the opportunity to add their baby's name and share details of their unique journey, including birth date, length of NICU stay, birth weight, current weight and discharge date.

The mural provides a location for a photo opportunity and is designed to celebrate the strength and resilience of NICU babies while creating a lasting tribute to the families who have walked beside them every step of the way. The mural serves as a beautiful reminder of hope and perseverance and honors the hundreds of babies who graduate from the NICU and go home each year.

Sponsored by the Junior League of Albany, the project was inspired by the organization's Find the Good Day initiative and the belief that even during the most challenging days, families deserve moments to celebrate, reflect and find joy. The mural recognizes the incredible journeys of Phoebe's NICU graduates while encouraging families who are still walking that path.

The project also builds on the Junior League's ongoing support of Phoebe's NICU. Last year, the organization donated books to help create a special library space for NICU families, offering a comforting place adjacent to the mural where families can read, bond and find moments of peace during their hospital stay.

Every family who takes a picture in front of this mural shares a story of courage, love and hope. We hope parents will look at it and feel proud of how far their little one has come, while knowing an entire community is cheering them on," said Elise Cotten, President of the Junior League of Albany.
