The Albany Area Arts Council and Good Life City Salsa invite the community to spend an evening dancing in one of downtown Albany’s most beautiful rooms. Albany After Six: Salsa Night at the Carnegie Library takes place Wednesday, October 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the historic Carnegie Library, 215 N. Jackson Street.

The evening opens with a salsa class from 6 to 7 p.m., led by instructor Autumn Cockrell-Abdullah of Good Life City Salsa. No partner is needed, and every level is welcome. At 7 p.m. the floor opens for a salsa social, with music by DJ Carolina Zableh of Valdosta, and the dancing continues until 9.

Salsa Night grows out of the weekly salsa classes Cockrell-Abdullah teaches at the Carnegie Library every Wednesday at noon and 6 p.m., part of the Arts Council’s Michelle Oaks Mattocks Memorial Dance Program, offered in partnership with the Sowega Council on Aging. Since the classes began in July, they have drawn dancers of every age and experience, and Salsa Night is a chance to share that energy with the whole community.

“There is something about music and movement that brings people together faster than almost anything else,” said Nicole Willis, Executive Director of the Albany Area Arts Council.

“Autumn has built a warm and joyful community around salsa here on Wednesdays, and Salsa Night is our chance to throw open the doors of the Carnegie and invite everyone in. Come for the class, stay for the dancing, and bring a friend.”

Whether you already love salsa, are curious about Latin dance, or are simply looking for something fun to do after work, there is a place for you on the dance floor.
