Dougherty County District 3 Commissioner Clinton Johnson has been appointed chairman of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs Board for the 2026-27 term.

In this statewide leadership role, Johnson will help guide the board’s work supporting economic development, housing and programs designed to strengthen communities throughout Georgia.

Gov. Brian Kemp appointed Johnson to the DCA Board of Directors in July 2021 to represent Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District. His appointment as chairman reflects his continued service to the board and his extensive leadership experience in county government, community development and public policy.

“I am honored and humbled to be entrusted with this responsibility,” Johnson said. “The Department of Community Affairs plays a vital role in helping Georgia’s communities create opportunities, expand access to quality housing and build strong foundations for the future. I look forward to working with my fellow board members and DCA leadership to advance practical solutions that serve all Georgians while ensuring the voices and needs of Southwest Georgia remain part of the conversation.”

Johnson has represented District 3 on the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners since 2013 and is currently serving his fourth term. He also serves as immediate past president and a member of the Executive Committee of ACCG — Advancing Georgia’s Counties. As ACCG’s 2025-26 president, Johnson provided statewide leadership on issues affecting Georgia’s 159 counties and worked to strengthen collaboration among county officials and governmental partners.

On Aug. 6, 2026, National Association of Counties President George Dunlap appointed Johnson to serve as a member of the NACo Board of Directors. In this national role, Johnson will contribute to NACo’s work as the unified voice of America’s counties and help advance priorities affecting county governments and the communities they serve.

His professional and public-service experience includes economic and community development, housing and neighborhood revitalization, youth and family services, workforce development, public policy and grant development.

Johnson studied political science at Albany State University and is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for collaborative leadership, consensus building and developing partnerships that improve residents’ quality of life.
