Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany had the distinct privilege of welcoming Ambassador Theodore R. Britton, Jr., one of the last living Montford Point Marines, Aug. 5.

Britton is part of a historic legacy of African American Marines whose courage, perseverance and service helped break racial barriers and pave the way for the integration of the United States Marine Corps. His visit provided a unique opportunity to hear firsthand the history, experiences and sacrifices of the Montford Point Marines and the lasting impact they made on our Corps and our nation.

Ambassador Britton, sir, we honor you and the Montford Point Marines who answered the call to serve, despite the barriers you faced. Your courage and sacrifices helped shape the Marine Corps we know today, and your legacy continuous to inspire generations of Marines.
