Albany Technical College hosted a Business Management Program Refresh on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, in the Center of Excellence in Information Technology Building, Room 112. The event spotlighted the college’s Business Management program, career opportunities for students, and the role business education plays in supporting employers, small businesses, and the regional workforce.
The program refresh was held during National Small Business Week, observed May 3-9, 2026. National Small Business Week is an annual event hosted by the U.S. Small Business Administration to recognize the hard work, dedication, and economic impact of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. The observance celebrates the businesses that drive innovation, create jobs, and help power local, state, and national economies.
Albany Technical College’s Business Management program prepares students for entry-level management positions in a variety of businesses and industries. Students are introduced to academic and occupational knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for job acquisition, retention, and advancement in management. The program offers an associate degree, diploma, and technical certificates in Supervisor/Manager Specialist, Service Supervision Specialist, and Human Resources Management Specialist.
“The Business Management program gives students a strong foundation that can be used in many different career paths,” said Nicole Lane, Chair and Instructor for the Business Management and Logistics Management Program at Albany Technical College. “Students gain practical knowledge in leadership, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, teamwork, and planning. These are skills employers need across industries, and they are also skills that can help students grow into supervisory and management roles.”
The Business Management program is available fully online, allowing students with full-time jobs, family responsibilities, or other scheduling needs to continue their education with greater flexibility. Full-time faculty also provide hands-on advisement and classroom support to help students move through the program successfully.
Graduates of the program may pursue opportunities in administrative support, office operations, purchasing, retail management, small business management, hospitality management, customer relations, and operations support. With additional experience, graduates may also move into higher-level management roles such as general manager, branch manager, operations consultant, or department leadership positions.
“Business and management skills are needed in almost every part of our local economy,” said Lisa Stephens, Associate Vice President at Albany Technical College. “Southwest Georgia needs employees who can lead teams, support daily operations, manage customer service, understand purchasing, and help businesses function efficiently. Programs like Business Management help prepare students for those roles while also supporting the broader workforce needs of our community.”
Students who complete the program may also continue their education toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Management through several transfer or continuation pathways, including Albany State University, Valdosta State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, Mercer University, Georgia Military College, and other institutions.
The Business Management Program Refresh included participation from ATC leadership, faculty, alumni, and current students, including Nicole Lane, Chair/Instructor; Kerpasha Fletcher Davis, alumna; and Lisa Stephens, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Business/Healthcare Technology.
