The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce is joining chambers and business leaders across the state in supporting Georgia’s “May Matters” initiative, a statewide effort aimed at increasing voter participation during Georgia’s primary election season.

As early voting continues across Georgia, community and business leaders are emphasizing the importance of civic engagement and encouraging residents to make their voices heard at the ballot box. The campaign focuses on raising awareness about the impact primary elections have on local communities, economic growth, workforce development, and the future of Georgia.

“Strong communities are built on engaged citizens,” said Matt Reed, Interim President & CEO of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce. “The Albany Area Chamber believes informed and active participation in the election process helps strengthen our region and ensures local voices are represented in decisions that shape our future.”

The May Matters campaign provides employers and organizations with free, nonpartisan resources designed to encourage voter participation in a positive and accessible way. Businesses are encouraged to share election reminders, promote early voting information, and create opportunities for employees to participate in the democratic process.

Community participation in primary elections often plays a significant role in determining leadership at the local and state levels. These elections can influence decisions involving infrastructure, education, public policy, economic development, and business growth throughout Georgia communities.

The Albany Area Chamber encourages local businesses to support civic engagement by:

 • Sharing election and early voting information with employees and customers
 • Encouraging team members to create a voting plan
 • Posting nonpartisan voter reminders on social media and in workplaces
 • Promoting community involvement through civic awareness initiatives

The May Matters initiative remains strictly nonpartisan and does not endorse candidates or political parties. Its mission is centered on increasing awareness and participation in Georgia’s primary elections.

Chris Clark, President & CEO of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, “Strong participation in primary elections is essential to maintaining a competitive economy and a thriving business climate in Georgia. The decisions made during primary elections often influence policy and leadership long before the general election. When more Georgians are engaged early in the process, it strengthens representation, supports economic growth, and helps ensure our communities are positioned for long-term success.”
