Albany Technical College held an Oral Cancer Awareness Proclamation Presentation on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in the LEC Auditorium, bringing together college leadership, faculty, students, and community participants for a program centered on prevention, education, and early detection.

During the event, Dr. Emmett Griswold, President of Albany Technical College, presented a proclamation recognizing April 2026 as Oral Cancer Awareness Month at Albany Technical College. The designation emphasizes the purpose of this observance: to promote public education, encourage healthy lifestyle choices, support survivors, strengthen disease recognition through oral health screenings and continuing education, and reduce the burden of oral cancer through earlier detection. The proclamation also emphasized the importance of routine screenings, public awareness, and prompt attention to warning signs that can improve outcomes.

The program included welcome and closing remarks from Lisa Stephens, awareness remarks from Ivey Bradley, Chair of the Dental Assisting Program, and a recognition moment led by Sara Brown. The presentation also underscored the role dental professionals and healthcare educators play in helping communities understand risk factors, identify symptoms, and encourage regular oral health screenings.

"As a college that prepares future healthcare professionals, Albany Technical College knows the importance of education, prevention, and community awareness in addressing serious health concerns such as oral cancer," said Dr. Emmett Griswold, President of Albany Technical College. "This proclamation presentation shows the college's commitment to health education and to serving the broader community through informed action."
Albany Technical College's Dental Assisting Program and Business and Healthcare Programs supported the event as part of the college's broader mission to connect instruction, workforce preparation, and community well-being.
