Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital is proud to announce Heather Hearon, RN, as the January 2026 recipient of the DAISY Award, a national recognition honoring nurses who demonstrate extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care.

Heather has been part of the Phoebe family for several years and is known among colleagues for her strength, integrity and commitment to excellence. Those who work alongside her quickly recognize that her strength is rooted in deep compassion and an unshakable commitment to doing what is right for her patients and her team.

Described as a nurse who refuses to settle for anything less than the best, Heather holds herself and those around her to high standards because she truly cares about the quality of care delivered and the kind of nurses her colleagues become. Her leadership reflects a balance of accountability and kindness, proving that strength and heart can go hand in hand

In her DAISY nomination, a fellow nurse shared how Heather made a life-changing impact during one of the most difficult periods of her career. As a new and foreign nurse navigating a challenging environment, the nominee often felt judged, alone and misunderstood. Heather saw her colleague’s potential and helped her discover her confidence and courage.

“She taught me how to speak up, believe in myself and find my strength. Sometimes, all it takes is one person who believes in you to help you survive the demanding, often overwhelming world of healthcare. For me, she is that person,” said the nominator.

The consistent theme throughout Heather’s nomination is clear; she is loyal, protective, and deeply compassionate, both toward her patients and her coworkers. She is not afraid to do the hard things or to stand up for what is right, even when it is uncomfortable. Her leadership inspires others and creates a culture where nurses feel supported, valued, and empowered.

“This month’s DAISY Award recipient reflects the very best of nursing at Phoebe. Heather’s commitment to doing what is right for her patients and her colleagues demonstrates true leadership. She leads with both strength and heart, and her dedication to excellence makes a lasting difference across our organization,” said Maureen Jackson, Chief Nursing Officer for Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors the amazing work nurses do for patients and families every day.
