Albany State University (ASU) celebrated the achievements of more than 700 graduates during the Fall 2025 Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, December 13, at the Albany Civic Center. Families, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members filled the arena as students crossed the stage to receive certificates, associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. The ceremony marked a particularly meaningful moment for the university as it was the first commencement overseen by President Dr. Robert Scott.

The keynote address was delivered by distinguished alumnus Eric Heyward, Class of 2005, an accomplished entrepreneur, strategist, and community leader whose work bridges business, culture, and innovation. Heyward shared reflections from his own journey and encouraged graduates to lead with vision, integrity, and courage. As the Co-Owner and Chief Operating Officer of Talley and Twine Watch Company, he has helped build one of the nation’s most recognized Black-owned luxury watch brands, while also serving as a senior executive at RenderATL, a premier national tech and culture conference.

This year’s ceremony also highlighted a remarkable family milestone. Among the Class of 2025 were mother and daughter, Lashundria Ray and Jada Pace, who walked across the stage together to receive their Associate of Science in Nursing degrees. For Lashundria, the achievement marked a new beginning following a significant life transition. Although she had already earned a degree in criminal justice, she felt called to pursue nursing and applied to ASU in 2023. At the same time, her daughter Jada felt drawn toward a more impactful career path and, encouraged by her mother’s leap of faith, decided to join her by enrolling. Together, they faced early mornings, late nights, demanding clinicals, and moments of challenge, leaning on one another and on their faith to persevere. Their shared accomplishment stands as a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of a strong family bond.

Across the university, graduates celebrated exciting next steps. Many are entering the workforce in fields such as business, healthcare, education, science, public service, and law enforcement, while others are continuing their studies at ASU and beyond. Success stories include Abree Kirsch, now a Crime Scene Technician with the Albany Police Department; April Marks, who will pursue a Master of Science in Nursing at ASU; Austin Holton, who is working as a Physical Therapist Assistant at Archbold Memorial Hospital and South Georgia Medical Center; and De’Amare Chambers, who is serving as a paraprofessional and football coach at Grayson High School.

The Fall 2025 Commencement Ceremony reflected Albany State University’s continued commitment to academic excellence and student success. As the graduates of the Class of 2025 step forward into careers, advanced study, and new opportunities, they carry with them the pride, preparation, and legacy of Albany State University.
