Friday, September 5th, 2025
Albany State University (ASU) proudly announces Georgia State Representative, attorney, and distinguished alumnus Tremaine “Teddy” Reese as the keynote speaker for the 2025 Homecoming Convocation. The Convocation will take place on Friday, October 17, at 10 a.m. in the Jones Brothers HPER Complex on East Campus.
This year’s Homecoming theme, “Reigniting the Flame,” celebrates the passion, pride, and resilience that define the Golden Ram spirit. The theme was chosen to reflect ASU’s commitment to strengthening traditions, rekindling connections among alumni and students from both Albany State University and Darton State College, and inspiring renewed energy for the university’s future under the leadership of President Dr. Robert Scott.
Reese, a 2003 graduate of ASU with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, has built a distinguished career in law, politics, and community service. In 2022, he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 140.
Born and raised in Gordon, Georgia, Reese became the first in his family to attend college. While at ASU, he made his mark as a student leader, serving two consecutive terms as Student Government Association President and as Vice President of the Delta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. In 2002, he founded and hosted the first Annual Student Leadership Conference at Albany State.
Following ASU, Reese earned a master’s degree in public administration from Georgia College & State University before graduating cum laude from Florida A&M University College of Law. He is a member of both the Florida Bar and the State Bar of Georgia, and his early legal experiences included clerking for the Honorable Marc L. Lubet with the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, Felony Division.
Today, Reese is the principal owner and managing attorney of The Reese Firm, LLC, and Executive Director of the Chattahoochee Valley Office of Poverty Reduction. His professional background includes work with GEICO Corporate, the City of Atlanta, and the Georgia Appleseed Center for Law and Justice.
Reese’s commitment to service and leadership has earned him numerous honors, including Georgia Trend Magazine’s “Top 40 Under 40” (2016), Columbus and the Valley Magazine’s “Top 5 Under 40 Young Professionals” (2014), and the Men’s Progressive Club of Columbus “Man of the Year” Award (2019). He is also a graduate of Georgia Forward’s 2014 Young Game Changers, Leadership Georgia’s Class of 2015, and recipient of the Urban League of Greater Columbus Millennial Trailblazer Award (2017). Most recently, he was honored with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. State of Georgia “2025 Legislator of the Year Award” and the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. State of Georgia “2025 Leadership Award.”
Beyond his professional achievements, Reese serves on several boards and councils, including the Planning Advisory Council for the City of Columbus. He is a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the Albany State University National Alumni Association, embodying the values of leadership, excellence, and community engagement that define ASU.
Homecoming 2025 will be a week-long celebration of students, alumni, and the community. ASU invites alumni and supporters to return to campus and take part in this spirited tradition.
Festivities will culminate on Saturday, October 18, with the Annual Homecoming Parade in downtown Albany at 9 a.m., followed by the Golden Rams football game against Tuskegee University at 1 p.m.
The early bird special for Homecoming has been extended through Monday, September 15. The package includes a game ticket, campus entry, and parking for $50. After September 15, these items will be sold separately at a total cost of $70.
