The Dougherty County Board of Education voted Monday to name Whitney Webb as the district’s new Early Literacy Coordinator following a recommendation from Superintendent Kenneth Dyer.

Webb, who currently serves as assistant principal at Merry Acres Middle School, previously served as an Early Literacy Specialist within the district where she worked to design and implement professional learning sessions for district administrators and teachers and where she partnered with district instructional coaches to strengthen literacy instruction at the elementary level.

“I am honored to serve as our district's Early Literacy Content Coordinator and to continue leading the important work of supporting our teachers and students,” Webb said. “Early literacy is the foundation for lifelong learning, and I am deeply committed to advancing our district’s number one priority by ensuring every child has the tools they need to become confident, capable readers. I look forward to collaborating with our dedicated educators to make a lasting impact on student success.”

Dr. Mary Felton, Chief Academic Officer, expressed excitement about Webb leading the Early Literacy Team.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Whitney Webb as our new Early Literacy Coordinator,” Felton said. “Ms. Webb's expertise will help ensure that our youngest learners receive high-quality, evidence-based instruction. This work directly supports our mission to provide every student with a strong academic start and empower them to become successful and impactful contributors to society.”
