Georgia DOT Celebrates 18 Years of 511GA
Monday, May 12th, 2025
On Sunday, May 11, 2025, the Georgia Department of Transportation will celebrate 511Georgia (511GA) Day commemorating 511GA, a free service that provides the latest traffic and travel information to Georgia motorists. In alignment with Georgia DOT's mission, this year’s 511GA Day theme, “Connecting Georgia, One Road at a Time,” underscores the importance of every travel update, alert, and app notification in building a safer, stronger, and more connected Georgia.
"For 18 years, 511GA has been the state’s leading source for real-time traffic and travel information," said Georgia DOT Commissioner Russell R. McMurry, P.E. "We are extremely proud of how far the system has grown, and of the critical role it plays in aiding the Department's ultimate mission, the safety of Georgia's motoring public and those passing through our great state."
Launched in 2007, the 511GA system is comprised of a phone system, mobile app, and website. Using the 511GA app and phone system, callers can speak with live operators to report incidents or request Highway Emergency Response Operators (HERO) and Coordinated Highway Assistance & Maintenance Program (CHAMP) operators for assistance. Additionally, users can monitor travel speeds, traffic incidents, construction events, lane closures and severe weather data.
511GA is powered by Georgia DOT’s advanced transportation management system, NaviGAtor, and offers access to more than 3,700 traffic cameras across Georgia. Since launch, 511GA traffic operators have answered more than 15 million calls, and over 450,000 people have downloaded the 511GA app.
