Albany State University Graduates Over 700 at Spring Commencement Ceremony
Wednesday, May 14th, 2025
On Saturday, May 10, more than 700 students crossed the stage at the Civic Center and officially became graduates of the Unsinkable and Indestructible Albany State University (ASU).
The keynote speaker, Aliyah Johnson (’21), an alumna of ASU, delivered an inspiring address that assured graduates they are prepared for the next chapter of their lives because of the work and growth they experienced at ASU.
Johnson reflected on her time at the University and the life lessons she learned that fueled her passions and encouraged her to step beyond fear. Quoting her own journey, she shared, “God places the best things in life on the other side of fear.” She urged the graduates to persevere, even when the path forward is unclear.
“‘The Unsinkable’ is not just a slogan,” she said, “but a promise to pursue greater, even when the ground beneath us is unsteady. It is a declaration that when we dare to dream big, the possibility of reaching those dreams empowers us far more than any weapon formed against us.”
She continued by reminding graduates to remain resilient in an ever-changing world and to hold tightly to their self-worth: “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. You are powerful beyond measure.”
Graduates from ASU are now heading into careers and graduate programs, already making strides toward meaningful impact. Here are just a few of their stories:

Nia Kimbro, 25, a native of Stockbridge, Georgia, graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner. She currently works as a neurology nurse at Piedmont Hospital and has received job offers in both primary care and women’s health. She plans to begin her career as a family nurse practitioner following graduation.

Albany State University is immensely proud of the graduating class of spring 2025. This remarkable group of scholars, leaders, and trailblazers has shown incredible resilience, determination, and excellence throughout their journey. From late nights of studying to early mornings of commitment, they’ve faced challenges head-on and emerged stronger, smarter, and ready for what’s next.
As they step into the world beyond ASU, they carry with them not just degrees, but the values, vision, and enduring spirit of what it means to be a Golden Ram.
Congratulations, Class of Spring 2025!
