Conference will Focus on Growth and Innovation of Sustainable Aquaculture
Thursday, April 10th, 2025
The 2025 Georgia Aquaculture Conference will advance sustainable aquaculture practices and foster economic growth across the state. Hosted by UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant, the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and the Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resources, the conference will take place on April 18, 2025, at the UGA Center for Continuing Education & Hotel in Athens, Georgia.
Farmers, researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers are invited to engage in discussions aimed at sharing best practices, fostering innovation and building connections that support research and development.
The rising demand for seafood in the U.S., fueled by population growth and health-conscious dietary trends, underscores the need for investing in sustainable aquaculture. Georgia contributes less than 1% to U.S. seafood production, but the state is well-positioned to lead the expansion of aquaculture with its strong agricultural industry, transportation networks and natural resources.
“Our goal is to facilitate dialogue and collaboration among those who are shaping the future of Georgia’s freshwater and marine aquaculture sector,” said Mark Risse, director of UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. “Growing the industry through strategic partnerships presents significant opportunities for job creation, increased investment and rural economic development.”
The conference will feature concurrent sessions addressing a range of key topics, including:
-
Emerging opportunities for coastal and inland aquaculture
-
Market trends and industry expansion
-
Regulatory frameworks and permitting processes
-
Investment and financial planning
-
Advancements in research, education and workforce development
In addition to the concurrent sessions, attendees will enjoy a special evening reception and poster session.
Ticket prices are $45. Participants are encouraged to register early to take advantage of this opportunity to engage with experts and stakeholders from across the state.
