Camp Good Grief 2025: Helping Children Heal from Loss
Monday, April 7th, 2025
Phoebe Hospice is proud to announce the return of Camp Good Grief, a special camp designed to support children aged 5-18 who are coping with the loss of a loved one.
This year's camp will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, starting at 9 a.m. at Albany State University, West Campus, Building J (Allied Health, Community Services & Theatre), 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA.
Losing a loved one is challenging at any age, but it can be particularly difficult for children. Camp Good Grief provides a safe and nurturing environment where children can express their emotions, share their experiences, and connect with peers who are going through similar situations.
"Camp Good Grief provides a unique and supportive environment where children can begin to heal from the profound loss of a loved one. Our goal is to help them find their voice, build confidence, and connect with others who understand their journey. We are committed to offering a safe and nurturing space for these young hearts to express their emotions and start the healing process," said Kari Pryor, Grief Recovery Specialist, Phoebe Hospice.
Camp Activities Include:
-
Group Sessions: Facilitated discussions where children can share their stories and feelings.
-
Letter Writing and Journaling: Creative outlets to help children process their grief.
-
Recreational Activities and Play Therapy: Engaging activities that promote healing through play.
-
Memorial Service: An informal service where campers can present tributes to their loved ones.
One of the highlights of Camp Good Grief is the memorial service held at the end of the camp. This special event allows campers to honor their loved ones with tributes, providing a meaningful way to remember and celebrate their lives. Families are invited to join this touching ceremony.
The camp is led by a team of grief and loss professionals who are carefully screened and trained to support children in a healthy and constructive manner. These professionals create a supportive atmosphere where children can begin to heal and build confidence.
Camp Good Grief is a vital resource for children dealing with loss, offering them a place to find their voice and start the healing process in a safe and fun environment. We invite the community to support this important initiative and help spread the word to families in need.
