Sherwood Christian Academy Presents Sight & Sound’s Joseph

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Friday, March 7th, 2025

Sherwood Christian Academy High School Fine Arts presents Joseph, an original Sight & Sound Theatres production, on April 3-5, 2025. SCA made history in 2023 as one of the first private schools in the nation to license and perform a Sight & Sound play. This year, students continue that tradition with Joseph, a production filled with action, original music, and a powerful biblical message.

This fully staged musical drama brings Joseph’s story to life with Broadway-style music, a dynamic cast, and immersive visuals. Sight & Sound Theatres, based in Missouri and Pennsylvania, is known for productions that go beyond the typical stage experience, using unique sets, sounds, and scenes to engage audiences. Southwest Georgia audiences can experience Joseph in four performances at Sherwood Baptist Church’s Worship Center.

“We are honored to be a part of the Sight & Sound legacy and have the chance to put on one of their productions,” said SCA Fine Arts Director Brydon McDowell. “Through their example, our students are learning the power of storytelling, ministry, leadership, creativity, and so much more. Joseph is an epic introduction to the biblical story for your kids and to theatre for friends and family to attend together! This show is packed with adventure, silliness, and imagination. There is something to entertain every age and demographic.”

Sherwood students debuted their first Sight & Sound production in 2023 with Ruth, making it one of the first high school performances of its kind in the U.S. The show attracted record-breaking audiences for SCA. This year, students are elevating the experience with a massive LED board, creating dynamic backgrounds and immersive visuals.

Last summer, several cast members traveled to Sight & Sound Theatres in Pennsylvania to see Daniel live and tour behind the scenes. They witnessed the artistry behind Sight & Sound’s life-sized sets and elaborate storytelling, which have inspired their performance.

SCA’s Fine Arts program continues to excel, with the One Act team recently winning its third consecutive State Championship.

“SCA is so blessed to have such a talented and dedicated student body to bring stories like this to life in our own unique way,” McDowell said. “They are always game to rise to the challenge and face creative obstacles that come with producing such a large-scale production like this. We hope you are touched by God’s story of His sovereignty, redemption, and the power of forgiveness.”

The Performing Arts program at SCA develops musical and performance skills for students to grow in their confidence, discipline, critical thinking skills, and the spirit of contributing to a team effort.
