A ROOM OF HER OWN Art Exhibition @ Albany Area Arts Council
Wednesday, March 19th, 2025
The Albany Area Arts Council is proud to present A Room of Her Own, an invitational exhibition showcasing the work of four exceptional female artists: La Keisha Smith Martin, Aniessa Fudge, Annie Van Oteghem, and Camyljah Giddens. This dynamic exhibition, on view from March 20 – May 1, 2025, honors Women’s History Month by giving each artist a dedicated gallery space to tell her own story through her artwork.
The exhibition’s title, inspired by Virginia Woolf’s famous essay, speaks to the importance of creative space—both physical and conceptual—for women artists. Each featured artist explores themes of identity, memory, resilience, and cultural storytelling through their chosen mediums. From bold paintings and textured compositions to intimate photography and symbolic visual narratives, A Room of Her Own offers a compelling look at the diverse perspectives and lived experiences of women in the arts.
The community is invited to join us for a public reception on March 20 from 6-8 PM, where attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artists and engage with their work in an immersive setting.
The Albany Area Arts Council is dedicated to supporting and promoting the arts in Southwest Georgia, providing opportunities for artists and audiences to connect through exhibitions, educational programs, and community initiatives. Housed in the historic Carnegie Library building in downtown Albany, the council serves as a hub for cultural engagement and artistic expression.
