Ashes to Go with St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church: A Convenient Way to Begin the Lenten Season
Wednesday, March 5th, 2025
St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church invites the community to participate in Ashes to Go on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Gieryic’s Automotive Repair (located at Dawson Rd. and Whispering Pines).
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a 40-day season of prayer, reflection, and spiritual growth leading up to Easter. Traditionally, Ash Wednesday services involve the imposition of ashes, a symbol of repentance and humility. St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church is making this ancient spiritual practice more accessible by offering Ashes to Go, a convenient drive-thru opportunity for those unable to attend a formal service.
“We understand people lead busy lives, and it's not easy to take an hour out of their work day. Ashes to Go offers a small but significant way to mark the beginning of Lent without having to get out of your car or change your schedule,” said The Rev. Kyle C. Mackey, the priest at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church. “It’s a brief but meaningful moment to pause, reflect, and begin Lent, which is the journey to Easter, in a way that fits into your day.”
Participants can drive through the designated area at Gieryic’s Automotive Repair to receive ashes without needing to leave their vehicle. The service is open to everyone—no need to be a member of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, or any church. There are no donations or fees required, simply an invitation to connect with the start of this sacred season.
Ashes to Go is a way for those with busy schedules to take a moment of spiritual pause. Whether you are familiar with the tradition or exploring it for the first time, all are welcome to take part in this reflective experience.
