Reps. Bishop & Moolenaar Introduce Bill to Expand Rural Internet Access
Friday, February 7th, 2025
This week, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr., (GA-02) joined Congressman John Moolenaar (MI-02) to introduce H.R. 1020, the Broadening Online Opportunities Through Simple Technologies (BOOST) Act. The two serve as the Democratic and Republican leaders of the bipartisan bill which would allow rural households to claim a $300 tax credit for the purchase of a home Wi-Fi signal booster or mobile hotspot to access the internet.
“I am happy to join Congressman Moolenaar in reintroducing the bipartisan BOOST Act. People need dependable and affordable, high-speed internet for many day-to-day activities like teleworking, banking, doing homework, accessing telemedicine, and so much more,” said Congressman Bishop. “This is especially the case with rural communities and the BOOST Act will help close the gap to ensure that everyone can take full advantage of the digital resources out there and participate in the increasingly digital world in which we live and work.”
“Many rural Michigan families have waited far too long for reliable internet in their communities. The bipartisan BOOST Act will help these families connect to the internet or improve the connection they already have. Internet access is a necessity in today's economy and our bill will help these families sooner, rather than later,” said Congressman Moolenaar.
Moolenaar and Bishop previously introduced the BOOST Act in 2023. The BOOST Act is cosponsored by Congressmen Bill Huizenga (MI-04), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19).
