Tuesday, February 25th, 2025
Albany Technical College is honored to be a recipient of the Embark Grant, a capacity-building initiative designed to enhance services for students who have experienced foster care or homelessness. The $40,000 grant, provided through the generous support of the Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation and administered by the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, will strengthen the College's efforts to support vulnerable student populations.
"This grant allows us to expand vital services and create new opportunities for students who face unique challenges," said Yolanda Skinner, Special Populations Coordinator at Albany Technical College. "Through this support, we can build stronger connections and resources to help our students achieve their educational goals."
The funds will be used to implement new initiatives aimed at increasing campus support services for students from foster care backgrounds and those experiencing housing insecurity. Projects funded through this grant will include training for campus staff, events to foster local networks of support, and the purchase of essential resources to enhance existing services.
Additionally, a portion of the grant will go toward supporting students through the Albany Technical College Food and Clothing Pantry on campus, helping to address immediate needs that impact academic success.
