Albany State University Nursing Faculty to Showcase Expertise at Georgia Association for Nursing Education Conference

Albany State University (ASU) is excited about the contributions our nursing faculty will make to the healthcare profession as they attend the Georgia Association for Nursing Education (GANE) conference, which will be held from February 27 - March 1 at Callaway Gardens Resort in Pine Mountain, Georgia. A group of 24 esteemed faculty members from the ASU School of Nursing will participate in the event, sharing their expertise through presentations and collaborating with peers on vital topics in nursing education, research, and evidence-based practices.
Among the anticipated presentations is The Influence of Technology on Critical Thinking Abilities in Nurses, by Professor Rainy Berry, exploring how modern technology shapes the decision-making skills of nurses. Dr. Andrea Dozier will present Retention Rumble: Keep Our Nursing Students in the Game, offering strategies to improve student retention in nursing programs. Another key presentation is by Prof. Sandra Vargovich, who will discuss What is Known About the Caring Behaviors of Nurse Faculty in Prelicensure Face-to-Face Nursing Classrooms? A Scoping Review.
ASU’s faculty members will also present in poster sessions on a range of vital topics. Dr. Wanda Allen will focus on nursing research, while Dr. Belinda Gilbert and Dr. Seketha Silas will discuss diabetes self-management strategies. Additionally, Prof. Angela Graham and Prof. Kristen Hill will share insights on Supplemental Instruction: More than Tutoring, highlighting the benefits of peer-led learning in nursing education.
Other notable ASU contributions throughout the conference include Jennifer Heyer’s Georgia Honor Guard presentation, which will be featured at the conference table, and Dr. Deanna Howe and Dr. Oluwatoyin Okafor’s podium session on Culturally Responsive Teaching Knowledge and Practices of Online Faculty. Dr. Daphne Mathis and Dr. Veela Hughes will present a poster on the Implementation of a Breast Navigation Program to Increase Mammography Screening, while Dr. Summer Odom and Nia Kimbro will share their research on Hypertension Education Among College-Aged Students: A Quantitative Study.
These presentations highlight Albany State University’s ongoing commitment to advancing nursing education, improving clinical practice, and enhancing healthcare outcomes impacting Georgia and beyond.
