The Board of Directors of Girls on the Run South Georgia announced today that Executive Director Mary Crawford's title is being changed to Chief Executive Officer. This change reflects the organization's significant growth, including a recent expansion of its service area to include counties throughout South Georgia, the Coastal/Lowcountry region and the continually growing support of the community. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Girls on the Run South Georgia has successfully inspired over 2,900 girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident.

“The program utilizes a research-based curriculum to teach essential life skills to girls in grades 3-8 in a fun and engaging after-school setting. Supported by dedicated volunteers and donors, Girls on the Run South Georgia empowers young girls to build confidence, develop healthy habits, and reach their full potential,” explained Board Chair Justin Purvis. "As Girls on the Run South Georgia continues to serve more and more girls and expand into new counties, our organizational profile is being elevated. The change in Mary's title from Executive Director to CEO certainly reflects this significant growth and it also underscores the incredible support we've received from our community."

“I appreciate the board's dedication and confidence. I am looking forward to working with them and our volunteers to inspire more girls to be joyful, healthy and confident," said CEO Mary Crawford. "Together, we have worked to build Girls on the Run South Georgia into one of the region's most impactful nonprofits. Members of our community are always invited to join us for the season-ending 5K celebration. You will see that crossing the finish line of the 5K is just the beginning for our girls. They have worked together throughout the season to not only realize their limitless potential but have grown to understand how working together as a team can magnify their impact in the community and the world.

So often they immediately turn around and go back out on the 5K course to find a teammate to encourage them to the finish line. It is something to see and it tells the story of our value so much better than words can. The life skills learned through our program will stay with them forever. We all know how important this is. I am excited about the future because our program is making a difference.”
