Sherwood Acres Elementary has become the first school in the Dougherty County School System to receive Distinguished Recognition for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), marking a significant milestone for the district.

Under the leadership of Principal Yvette Simmons, the school earned the distinction by meeting rigorous criteria, including the sustained implementation of PBIS and Restorative Practices, data-driven decision-making, and the active involvement of students, parents, and staff. This achievement highlights the school's commitment to creating a positive school climate that fosters improved student behavior, academic performance, and inclusivity.

The PBIS framework guides schools through four levels—Installing, Emerging, Operational, and Distinguished—offering a roadmap for improving school environments. Sherwood Acres' success in reaching the Distinguished level sets a high bar for other schools in the district.

“I couldn’t be more proud of what our whole school community has achieved,” said Simmons.
