Albany’s September Unemployment Falls to 4.0% as More Residents Find Work

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Albany recorded an unemployment rate of 4.0 percent in September, down nine-tenths of a percent over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 3.6 percent.
“This fall, unemployment rates are dropping all across Georgia,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “While some metro areas throughout the state have seen a slight dip in jobs, the overall increase in employment shows that more residents are finding work and contributing to our local economies. I will continue to fight for the resources our citizens need to thrive and ensure that Georgia's economy remains competitive and the No. 1 place to do business for years to come.”
The labor force increased in Albany by 226 and ended the month with 65,134. That number went up by 1,289 when compared to September of 2023.
Albany finished the month with 62,525 employed residents. That number increased by 766 over-the-month and went up by 1,009 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Albany ended September with 63,200 jobs. Jobs were unchanged over-the-month and were up by 1,300 over-the-year.
In September, initial unemployment claims in Albany decreased by 71 from the previous month. Comparing September 2024 to September 2023, claims were down by 40, totaling 221.
