2024 Dougherty County Board Vacant Appointments Announced

The Board of Commissioners of Dougherty County, Georgia will make appointments to the following listed Boards. Candidates should submit a letter of interest and/or resume by 5:00 p.m. November 1, 2024 to Bristeria Clark Hope, Deputy County Clerk at [email protected].
JOINT BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS & APPEALS – Two (2) appointments. These appointments (joint) will fill a three-year term ending October 1, 2027. The Board considers appeals from citizens regarding decisions and/or interpretations of the Building Inspector as it relates to the Southern Standard Building Code. Applicants should have building industry experience. The Board meets on an as-needed basis.
AIR CONDITIONING, HEATING, & VENTILATION BOARD – Four (4) appointments. The appointments will fill a one-year term ending December 31, 2025. The purpose of this Board is to review all matters pertaining to standards for use of air conditioning, heating, and ventilation. The Board meets on an as-needed basis. The appointed person must be a Dougherty County resident.
ALBANY-DOUGHERTY LAND BANK BOARD – One (1) appointment. The appointment will fill a two-year term ending July 31, 2026. The purpose of this board is to strategically acquire and dispose of property for the betterment of neighborhoods and the community as a whole. Applicants must have documented experience in subject matters relating to the operation of a Land Bank, this includes but is not limited to real estate, banking, property development, finance, and/or accounting. The Board meets every 2nd Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m. Application must be submitted. Contact the Deputy County Clerk to receive the application.
DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY & CHILDREN SERVICES– Two (2) appointments. These appointments will fill a five-year term ending June 30, 2029. The purpose of this Committee is to develop and promote the general welfare, trade, commerce, industry, and employment opportunities in the County. This Board meets on an as-needed basis.
ELECTRICAL BOARD - Five (5) appointments. These appointments will fill a one-year term ending December 31, 2025. The purpose of this Board is to consider all matters related to electrical installations, including alterations, repairs, and equipment. The Board meets on an as-needed basis. One (1) appointment must be a Master Electrician, two (3) must be an Electrical Supplier and one (1) must be Professional Engineer. The appointed person must be a Dougherty County resident. The Board meets on an as-needed basis.
FIRE CODE BOARD OF APPEALS – Three (3) appointments. These appointments will fill a three-year unexpired term ending December 31, 2027. The purpose of the Board is to listen and make decisions on appeals regarding complaints of violations of the Joint Fire Code. This Board meets on an as-needed basis.
FLOOD PLAIN MANAGEMENT REVIEW BOARD – Three (3) appointments. These appointments will fill a three-year term ending December 31, 2027. The purpose of the Board is to consider variances in structures that are below the required base flood elevation levels. This Board meets on an as-needed basis.
GAS BOARD - Three (3) appointments. These appointments will fill a one-year term ending December 31, 2025. The purpose of this Board is to consider all matters related to gas work, including alterations, repairs, and equipment. This Board meets on an as-needed basis.
GOLDEN TRIANGLE RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT (RC & D) COUNCIL - Two (2) appointments. These appointments will fill a two-year term ending December 31, 2026. The purpose of the Board is to assist local people in planning and carrying out activities that conserve natural resources, support economic development, enhance the environment and improve the standard of living for all citizens. The Council meets once a quarter in Miller County.
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE – Four(4) appointments. These appointments will fill a two-year term ending December 31, 2026. The purpose of the Board is to provide the designation of historic properties or historic districts, provide recommendations to the respective City / County Commissions for final approval, and provide for an appeals procedure. The Board typically meets the 1st Wednesday of each month at 10:00 AM. The appointed person must be a Dougherty County resident.
LIBRARY BOARD - Two (2) appointments. These appointments will fill a three-year term ending December 31, 2027. The purpose of this Board is to establish policies for library services and review complaints regarding the library. This Board meets on the 3rd Monday of every month (except July, August, & December).
DEPARTMENT OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH & DEVELOPMENT DISABILITIES REGIONAL 4– Two (2) appointments. These appointments will fill a three-year term ending December 31, 2027. The purpose of this Board is to plan and oversee a network of public mental health, developmental disabilities, addictive diseases, and prevention services for 41 counties. This Board meets bi-monthly on the 2nd Tuesday from 1-3 P.M. at various locations. Submission to County Clerk must state the disability area represented. An application must be submitted. Contact the Deputy County Clerk to view eligibility information.
PLANNING COMMISSION- Two (2) appointments. These appointments will fill a three-year term ending December 31, 2027. The Commission recommends actions on zoning and special approval cases. The Board meets monthly on the first Thursday at 2 p.m.
PLUMBING BOARD - Three (3) appointments. These appointments will fill a one-year term ending December 31, 2025. The purpose of the Board is to consider all matters related to plumbing work, including alterations, repairs, and equipment. The Board meets on an as-needed basis. Two (2) appointments must be Master Plumbers and one (1) represents a citizen member.
RETIREMENT FUND COMMITTEE - Three (3) appointments. These appointments will fill a four-year term ending December 31, 2028. The purpose of the Board is to administer the plan for the exclusive benefit of participants and their beneficiaries. The Board meets quarterly (February, May, August, and November) at 9:00 AM. One (1) appointment represents citizen members and (1) appointment must be a retiree of the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners. The appointed person must be a Dougherty County resident.
SOUTHWEST GEORGIA COMMUNITY ACTION COUNCIL - One (1) appointment. The appointment will fill a one-year term ending December 31, 2025. The purpose of this Board is to provide social services funded through the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG), Head Start/Early Head Start, Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), and Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA). This Board meets the 4th Tuesday of every other (odd) month at 7:30 pm in Moultrie. The appointed person must be a Dougherty County resident.
SOUTHWEST GEORGIA HOUSING TASK FORCE - One (1) appointment. The appointment will fill a one-year term ending December 31, 2025. The purpose of this Board is to focus on education as a key to solving and preventing housing problems in the 14-county region. This Board meets in Camilla, GA on the 2nd Tuesday from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
SOUTHWEST GEORGIA REGIONAL COMMISSION - Three (3) appointments. These appointments will fill a one-year term ending December 31, 2025. This Board meets the last Thursday of every month in Camilla, GA at 7:00 p.m. The appointed person must be a Dougherty County resident.
TAX ASSESSORS BOARD – Two (2) appointments. These appointments will fill a three-year term ending December 31, 2027. The purpose of this Board is to hear taxpayer appeals only for issues dealing with matters of taxability, uniformity of assessment and value to a homestead exemption. The Board meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. The appointed person must be a Dougherty County resident and must complete the required training within 180 days of appointment. This appointment will be paid per month.
VOTER REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS - One (1) appointment. The appointment will fill a two-year term ending December 31, 2026. The purpose of the Board is to handle all city, county, state and local elections; all voter registration for the city and county and appoint poll workers. The Board meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. This appointment will be paid per month.
