Albany Area Chamber’s PROPEL Luncheon Empowers, Elevates Women at Work

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, September 24th, 2024

The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce’s October 1 PROPEL luncheon, presented by Asa Med Spa, will unite  local businesswomen to share strategies and insights aimed at advancing careers, enhancing executive presence,  maximizing financial opportunities and making impactful contributions to their industries and the community.

“Women play a crucial role in driving economic growth and innovation,” said Bárbara Rivera Holmes, President and CEO  of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce. “With 42 percent of businesses in the United States owned by women, it's  clear that investing in women's leadership is vital for our community’s prosperity. Through the PROPEL program, we aim  to empower women to reach new heights and design their paths.”

U.S. Census data shows that Dougherty County’s population and work force, and that of the five-county Albany  Metropolitan Statistical Area, is majority female. This reinforces the need for programming that’s targeted at this  influential population. Studies show that women rarely apply for promotions unless they meet nearly 100 percent of the  qualifications listed, whereas men will apply when they meet about 60 percent of the requirements. This disparity  highlights the need for programs such as PROPEL to bolster women with the confidence, tools and support they need to  advance their careers.

The luncheon features a panel of accomplished women leaders, each of whom has made a significant impact in her  respective field:

- Allison W. Daniels, AIF®, partner at Upland Wealth Advisors, is recognized for her compassionate approach to  helping clients achieve their financial goals and her dedication to community service.

- Tracy Edwards, owner of Asa Healthcare Solutions and Asa Med Spa, combines healthcare expertise with  entrepreneurial spirit, leading her companies with a commitment to excellence and growth.

- Wendy M. Wilson, CEO of W2 Communications, Author, and chief of staff at Albany State University, has more  than 20 years of experience in executive coaching, diversity training, and professional development, transforming  organizations and empowering individuals to excel.

PROPEL, designed with participant input, connects, engages and inspires women in the Albany community by providing  them with the tools and resources needed to advance their careers and create a more inclusive business environment.

According to the International Finance Corporation, globally, women hold only 23.3 percent of board seats, 8.4 percent of board chairs, 6 percent of CEO positions, and 17.6 percent of CFO positions. However, businesses with gender-diverse  executive teams are 25 percent more likely to outperform their peers in profitability.

"Creating spaces for women to network, share and learn from one another is essential for driving change and increasing  representation in leadership roles,” Holmes said.

Attendees will enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by Austin's Firegrill while engaging in conversations that will help them  design their futures and inspire greatness within themselves and their community.

The 2024 PROPEL series is presented by Asa Med Spa. The October 1 PROPEL luncheon is further sponsored by Synovus, Molson Coors, Advent Business Interiors Inc, and O'Neal’s Consulting & Training Services
