The Soap For Hope Project, a heartfelt initiative launched by Mandi and Chris Ketchum in 2020, is calling on the community to come together to support those in need. What began as a dream during their honeymoon—handing out care packages to the homeless—has blossomed into a full-fledged mission to provide comfort and kindness to those experiencing homelessness.

Since its inception, the Soap For Hope Project has provided hundreds of care packages filled with essential items like emergency blankets, toiletries, socks, gloves, and first aid supplies to those in need. The project has also expanded to include other acts of kindness, such as distributing random kindness cards, gift baskets to nursing homes, supplies to children's homes, and assistance to families affected by sudden hardships, such as house fires or loss of income.

"This project is about bringing a bit of comfort and dignity to people who are in incredibly tough situations," said Mandi Ketchum, co-founder of the Soap For Hope Project. "We’ve been able to do this thanks to the incredible support of our community. Every donation, no matter how small, goes directly into the hands of someone who needs it."

As the project looks to expand in 2024, the Ketchums have set a goal of distributing 200 care packages by the end of October, doubling the number from last year. To help achieve this, they are organizing a fun and unique fundraiser: a goat-kissing challenge. Multiple community members, including Heather Harrison and other local supporters, have pledged to kiss a goat live on stream if they raise the most money or supplies for the project.

"We wanted to bring some light-hearted fun into our fundraising efforts, but the cause is incredibly serious," said Chris Ketchum, who personally delivers the care packages to those in need. "This is a boots-on-the-ground mission. I go out into the woods, under bridges, and wherever I need to, to find people who can benefit from these packages. We don’t transfer donations to other charities—every cent we raise is spent on supplies that we personally deliver."

The Soap For Hope Project is not a registered 501c3, ensuring that 100% of the funds raised go directly toward purchasing supplies for those in need. Mandi and Chris cover any processing fees from their own pockets, so donors can be assured that their contributions are making a direct impact.

"We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us over the past three years, whether through donations, sharing our posts, or volunteering," said Mandi. "You have made a world of difference, and we hope you’ll continue to help us spread kindness in 2024 and beyond."

Community members are encouraged to participate in the fundraising challenge by donating via the QR codes available on social media and tagging the Soap For Hope Project or specific participants to ensure they get credit.
