Tuesday, May 28th, 2024

The Dougherty County Board of Education voted unanimously Monday to approve Superintendent Kenneth Dyer’s recommendations for new school and district leadership positions.

First, the superintendent recommended Steven Dudley to serve as the executive director of Alternative Education. Dudley, who currently serves as the principal at Radium Springs Middle Magnet School of the Arts, will support operations at the South Georgia Regional Achievement Center and at the Turning Point Program while helping to spearhead a rebranding initiative for the district’s alternative education options for students who don’t thrive in a more traditional educational setting.

“Mr. Dudley has served as a successful building leader at the elementary, middle and high school levels.  This experience has given him a unique perspective regarding how to best meet the needs of all students, and it makes him exceptionally qualified to work with our principals to shape and refine the programs to ensure we meet the changing needs of our students,” Dyer said.

The new slate of school leaders include three familiar faces from schools within the district and one new person from Vidalia, Georgia.

Replacing Dudley at Radium Middle will be Lakisha Bobbitt, who is currently the principal of the South Tattnall Middle School in Reidsville.

At the elementary level, the board had previously voted to promote Valerie McGhee – the current assistant principal at Radium Springs Elementary School –  to serve as principal of that school following the retirement of Bruce Bowles as principal at the end of the school year.

On Monday, the board voted to promote Johnathan Johnson, who currently serves as the assistant principal at Live Oak Elementary School, to become the principal at Martin Luther King, Jr., Elementary School after Principal Eddie Johnson retires at the end of the school year.

Additionally, the board voted to promote Christopher Sharpe, who is the current assistant principal at Robert Harvey Elementary School, to serve as the principal at Northside Elementary School following the retirement of Principal Katina Allen at the end of the school year.
