Albany Area Chamber of Commerce proudly marked the start of National Small Business Week with a proclamation ceremony held Tuesday at the Chamber headquarters. Mayor Pro Tem Bob Langstaff led the ceremony, reading the proclamation on behalf of the City of Albany, while Jeretha Peters, Chair of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors, joined in emphasizing the critical role of small businesses in our community. The proclamation recognized April 28 – May 4 as National Small Business week in Albany.

The ceremony, attended by members of the press, local business owners, and community leaders, served as a poignant reminder of the resilience, innovation, and dedication exemplified by Albany's small business owners and entrepreneurs.

"National Small Business Week is more than just a recognition; it's a celebration of the heart and soul of our community," remarked Mayor Pro Tem Bob Langstaff. "As the proclamation states, small businesses are the backbone of our communities and the American economy, enriching our Main Streets and inventing the products of tomorrow. Today, we honor their invaluable contributions and reaffirm our commitment to supporting their continued success."

Bárbara Rivera Holmes, President and CEO of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of community support for small businesses. "Behind every small business is a dream, a vision, and a dedicated individual or team striving to make a difference," she said. "As we reflect on the significance of National Small Business Week, let us not only celebrate our local entrepreneurs but also pledge to patronize and uplift them throughout the year. Together, we can ensure the prosperity and vitality of Albany's small business community."

In addition to the local leadership, Terri Denison, SBA Georgia District Office Director, shared a message highlighting the broader impact of small businesses across the state and nation. "National Small Business Week highlights the contributions, perseverance, and vital role of America’s small businesses and entrepreneurs," said Denison. "Small businesses are the heartbeat of Georgia’s local economies, infusing communities such as Albany with innovation, resilience, and a distinct sense of character. This year, we celebrate the unprecedented growth of entrepreneurship across the United States including in Georgia, which is consistently ranked as one of the top states to start a small business."

The proclamation ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of Albany's small business community and the unwavering support it receives from local leaders and stakeholders. As National Small Business Week continues, the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce remains committed to advocating for and championing the interests of small businesses in our community.
