Monday, April 29th, 2024
In 2022, Georgia emerged as one of the top destinations for relocating remote workers, with an impressive influx of approximately 327,000 new residents. Our study dives deep into how and why Georgia has become such a magnet for professionals seeking new opportunities in a remote work setting.
Key Highlights Include:
• Georgia not only led the charts as one of the most popular states for remote workers but also experienced a substantial migration from high-cost states.
• The state attracted 132,000 on-site workers and 43,000 remote workers, underscoring its allure due to its vibrant economy and a flexible work environment.
• The demographic shift brought about by this trend is reshaping local economies and communities, positioning Georgia as a vibrant hub for business and innovation and making it one of the top destinations for Gen Zers, Millennials, Gen Xers, and Boomers.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, changing jobs often implied that people had to relocate to be close to the company’s office. However, with remote work proving to be a better and safer alternative during the pandemic and remaining a popular option for companies and employees today, moving to another location for work has become unnecessary. While work may not be the main reason people choose to relocate today, there are still many reasons for which someone would want to move to another place, whether within or out of state.
To get an idea of the impact remote work might have on the migration pattern of workers, we looked at data from the IPUMS USA specifically remote versus onsite workers. Here is what we found.
