Albany Symphony presents "Beethoven's Birthday Bash" on April 20th

THE ALBANY SYMPHONY presents “Beethoven’s Birthday Bash”
featuring pianist Albert Canto Smit,
and the combined choirs of
Albany Chorale, Albany State University Concert Choir, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Concert and Community Choir, Georgia Southwestern State University Concert Choir, Southwest Civic Chorus, and Middle Georgia State University Chamber Singers.

The Albany Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Music Director, Claire Fox Hillard, will present an “Beethoven’s Birthday Bash” concert on Saturday, April 20, 2024, featuring acclaimed pianist Albert Canto Smit. The performance begins at 6:30 pm at the Albany Municipal Auditorium.
The concert, originally conceived as a 250th Birthday Celebration for Ludwig van Beethoven in 2020 was cancelled due to COVID. The April 20 performance will celebrate Beethoven’s 253rd birthday and include his Coriolon Overture, Piano Concerto No. 4, “Elegaic Song,” and Choral Fantasy. The infrequently performed Choral Fantasy calls for piano soloist, orchestra, and chorus.
Joining the ASO in Beethoven’s “Elegaic Song” and Choral Fantasy will be several area choruses, including the Albany Chorale, Albany State University Concert Chorale, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural CollegeConcert and Community Choir, Georgia Southwestern State University Chamber Singers, Southwest Civic Chorus and Middle Georgia State University Chamber Singers.
Guest pianist Albert Cano Smit with join the orchestra for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 as well as the “Choral Fantasy.” Smit has been praised as “a moving young poet” (Le Devoir), and enjoys a growing international career on the orchestral, recital, and chamber music stages. He has appeared as a soloist with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, the San Diego Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Montréal Symphony, the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, Elgin Symphony, Orquesta Filarmónica de Boca del Río, Barcelona Symphony, Catalonia National Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, Nottingham Youth Orchestra, and American Youth Symphony.
“Beethoven’s Birthday Bash” is the final concert of our 23-24 Season, 60th Anniversary and is FREE to attend. The doors will open at 6:00 pm and the seating is all general admission.
