Monday, December 11th, 2023

Sherwood Christian Academy administration has announced the school will join the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) as a full member, including fine arts and academics, and as an active member of the Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA) for interscholastic athletics beginning in the 2024-2025 school year.

Having previously been with Georgia Association of Private and Parochial Schools (GAPPS), where SCA's varsity football team achieved notable success, including a 2022 state championship and 2023 runner-up title, the school is eager to embark on a new chapter with GIAA. In fall 2023, the school's football, volleyball, and cross-country teams excelled, sweeping the region championships. The boys’ tennis team also secured consecutive state championships in 2022 and 2023. Additionally, the Fine Arts program achieved back-to-back State Championships in the GAPPS One Act State Championship in 2022 and 2023.

In GIAA, SCA will compete at the AA level, competing with other schools in the region such as Georgia Christian, Westwood, Grace Christian, and Southwest Georgia Academy.

SCA Headmaster Kenny Roberts expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "While we are grateful for the years spent with GAPPS schools and GAPPS leadership, we are equally excited about partnering with the GISA and the GIAA. This transition will allow SCA to broaden its offerings to its students, families as well as faculty and staff. We are looking forward to less travel and building relationships with quality schools in our area.”

Under the motto "Compete with excellence," SCA remains committed to maintaining a high standard of competition in athletics, fine arts, and academic competitions within the GIAA and GISA structures. The school looks forward to the challenges and achievements that lie ahead in this new athletic association.
