Albany Technical College’s Adult Education program announces Malakia Jacobs as the chosen delegate for the 2023 Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) competition. Malakia will represent ATC in Atlanta for the State competition in March 2024. The EAGLE Program honors outstanding adult learners in Georgia who have shown remarkable progress and achievement in adult education classes, aiming to increase awareness of local educational opportunities and encourage ongoing learning.  

Malakia Jacobs, after realizing in his junior year that he was going to fall short on high school credits, sought alternative educational avenues. With the support of his mother, Jacobs pursued his High School Equivalency at Albany Technical College and achieved it on August 25, 2023. 

Linda Coston, VP of Adult Education, shared her thoughts on Jacobs, stating, "Watching Malakia's journey at Albany Technical College has been truly inspiring. His dedication, resilience, and determination are commendable. He's a testament to the fact that with the right support and drive, one can overcome any challenge. Our program is proud to have students like Malakia who not only chase their dreams but also become beacons of hope for others."  

Jacobs’ journey at Albany Technical College has been a testament to his resilience and determination. Not only has he achieved his High School Equivalency, but he has also obtained a certificate in Forklift operation, broadening his skill set for future employment opportunities. Malakia is now setting his sights on the Welding program at Albany Technical College, aiming to further his education and open more doors to a promising career. 

The Adult Education experience at Albany Technical College has profoundly impacted Jacobs. It has instilled in him a reinforced sense of willpower and the capacity to adjust to any situation in life. Jacobs is especially thankful to the program for reigniting his determination to find a trade that would guarantee better career prospects and ensure financial stability. 

As the EAGLE representative for the 2023/2024 academic year, Malakia Jacobs stands as an inspiration to many and a shining example of the transformative power of education.
