Albany Sees Marginal Increase in October Unemployment

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Albany recorded an unemployment rate of 4.0 percent in October, up one-tenth of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.8 percent.
 
“Georgia's unemployment rate remains below the national average, but businesses face growing pressure, including finding and retaining top-tier talent,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “As we attract diverse companies across the state, we must remain focused on developing the skills needed to meet critical workforce demands without reallocating talent between industries. By prioritizing our labor force, we can further strengthen Georgia as a place where both businesses and individuals can thrive together.”

The labor force decreased in Albany by 24 and ended the month with 65,502. That number went up by 1,010 when compared to October of 2022.

Albany finished the month with 62,901 employed residents. That number decreased by 53 over-the-month and rose by 840 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Albany ended October with 63,900 jobs. Jobs increased by 500 over-the-month and were up 1,200 over-the-year.

In October, initial unemployment claims increased by 89 (34%) in Albany. When you compare October 2023 claims to October 2022, claims were up by 36 (12%).
