September Unemployment Rate Drops in Albany

"Georgia reigns as the ultimate destination for business and economic opportunity," said Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson. "However, with recent workforce reductions at Geico, Yellow Freight, and other companies throughout the state, we need to be cognizant of the financial pressures creating some instability within our existing business community. In today's ever-shifting global market, we must remain vigilant and lead with innovation."
The labor force increased in Albany by 651 and ended the month with 65,546. That number went up by 1,093 when compared to September of 2022.
Albany finished the month with 62,976 employed residents. That number increased by 903 over-the-month and rose by 832 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Albany ended September with 63,400 jobs. Jobs increased by 200 over-the-month and were up 900 over-the-year.
In September, initial unemployment claims decreased by 68 (-21%) in Albany. When you compare September 2023 claims to September 2022, claims were down by 137 (-34%).
