New Study Reveals the Most Dangerous Counties in Georgia for Drivers

A new study reveals that Hancock is the most dangerous place in Georgia for drivers, with the County having the highest percentage of serious injuries and deaths on its roads.  

The study conducted by injury lawyers at Bader Scott analyzed Georgia's Department of Transportation and the number of crashes between 2018 and 2022 in each County of Georgia. The study focuses on the number of crashes in each County and the percentages of which ended in serious injuries and deaths to reveal the least safe counties in Georgia for drivers.  

Hancock County is at the top of the rankings as the most dangerous County in Georgia for drivers. The percentage of crashes resulting in serious injury and death is the highest in the state at 21.29%. Between 2018 and 2022, Hancock has seen 263 crashes, 24 of which involved at least one death, giving Hancock a 9.13% fatality rating, the highest in the state.   

The second least safe County for drivers in Georgia is Lincoln, with 37 accidents leading to serious injury and death, giving this County a 16.74% serious injury and death rating. In this County, there were 221 crashes overall, with 12 involving fatalities, and 25 leading to serious injuries occurred between 2018 and 2022.  

Chattahoochee County places third despite only seeing 187 crashes, the fourth lowest number of crashes in a County in the state, 23 of which resulted in serious injury and death; which equates to 12.30%. McIntosh County has witnessed 591 crashes, 47 of which caused serious injury, with 12.18% ending in serious injury and death, putting it firmly in fourth place. 

The fifth most dangerous Counties in Georgia for drivers is Glascock. This County's percentage of crashes ending in serious injury and death is 9.87%, alongside witnessing five deaths, leading to a fatality rating of 3.29%.  

The Counties of Wilcox and Wheeler place sixth and seventh in the rankings, with the crashes in Wilcox resulting in 34 serious injuries and deaths, which is 9.52% of the crashes in the County, as well as crashes in Wheeler resulting in 37 serious injuries and deaths, which is 9.05%. 

Webster County is the eighth most dangerous area for drivers in Georgia, with 8.82% of the crashes in the County resulting in serious injury and death. The total number of crashes in Webster is 204 from 2018 to 2022, six of which ended in death. 

In ninth place is Quitman County, with 142 crashes and just one death. This is the only County in Georgia that has witnessed only one death due to a collision and a 0.70% fatality rating. This County has seen 7.75% of its crashes end in serious injury and 8.45% in injury and death. 

Randolph County is the tenth most dangerous County for drivers in Georgia. There have been 400 crashes in the County, seven of which resulted in death. The fatality rating in Randolph is 1.75%, with 26 serious injuries resulting from these car accidents. The percentage of serious injuries and deaths resulting from these crashes is 8.25%.
