Modern Gas Company is set to host the 2023 Annual Rib Showdown competition on Saturday, October 21, at Chehaw Park. This year's event will expand to feature a Georgia Barbecue Association (GBA) sanctioned competition in addition to the beloved Backyard Barbecue competition.   

The addition of the GBA sanctioned competition allows for more competition teams, food vendors and attenders than ever before. This event comes upon the largest Rib Showdown in 2022, which featured thirty backyard bar-be-que teams and over 700 people in attendance. 

This year, teams of professionals and backyard bar-be-que rib master’s will test their rib cooking skills as they compete for the first through tenth place category titles for professional teams, and first through fifth place titles for our backyard teams. In addition, the event will feature entertainment from area bands, local food trucks, fun activities for kids, a cornhole tournament and more. 

The event is open to the public at 11 a.m., with activities lasting until 6 p.m. The event is included with park admission. 

The Junior League of Albany, Georgia, will benefit from the 2023 event, including all proceeds from the popular Rib Showdown Raffle. Those who win by the luck of the draw have a chance to win a KitchenAid Stand Mixer, SABER 4-burner gas grill, Large Big Green Egg in nest, Frigidaire Gallery gas range, Rinnai tankless hot water heater, and more. Raffle tickets may be purchased in advance from a member of the Albany Junior League or on site at the event entrance.
