The "Dollars Make Sense" initiative is designed to equip adults with vital financial skills. The goal is to deliver comprehensive financial literacy classes to adults, empowering them with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed financial decisions and achieve their personal and financial goals.
"It's vital that financial education be made accessible to everyone, regardless of age," said Dougherty County Commissioner Anthony Jones, "By teaming up with Albany Technical College and Ameris Bank, we are taking a significant step towards making that a reality. We believe that empowering adults with these skills can transform individual lives and strengthen our communities."
According to coordinators, many adults need a fundamental understanding of crucial financial topics such as budgeting, saving, investing, and managing credit. This initiative seeks to bridge that knowledge gap.
People feel like they have credit, making those minimum payments, and they're doing well, but other things impact that score, said Jennifer Wilson with Ameris Bank," "So I think just the knowledge and not knowing what affects your score is the main thing."
The program offers five sessions on various financial topics, such as budgeting and debt management.
